Connecticut abolished functional county government in 1960. Fairfield County has no county government or council; all governance, including e-bike and traffic ordinances, is handled by its individual towns and cities.

Overview

Fairfield County follows the Connecticut state e-bike statutes, plus any county ordinances listed below. Cities and school districts inside the county may impose additional restrictions on paths, sidewalks and campus property.

Pocket bikes, mini bikes and bicycles with helper motors
Stamford Code of Ordinances Ch. 231, Art. VI
Regulates and restricts operation of motorized mini-bikes and helper-motor bicycles, the predecessor category to e-bikes, within city limits.

Proposed ordinance on road takeovers and modified e-bikes and dirt bikes
Proposed - not yet codified
Proposed local ordinance targeting illegal road takeovers, modified e-bikes operating as unregistered motorcycles and unsafe riding behavior; underwent a second reading before the Board of Selectmen.
