Boulder County includes the City of Boulder, which passed a significant e-bike ordinance in 2023 opening certain open space trails to Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes.
Overview
Boulder County follows the Colorado state e-bike statutes, plus any county ordinances listed below. Cities and school districts inside the county may impose additional restrictions on paths, sidewalks and campus property.

E-bikes on Boulder County Open Space
E-bikes are prohibited on foothills and mountain open space trails; Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are allowed on most other designated regional and plains trails; Class 3 e-bikes are allowed only on the US 36 Bikeway.
