Colorado e-bike regulations
Colorado law (C.R.S. 42-4-1412) defines and regulates electrical assisted bicycles in three classes, exempting them from motor vehicle registration and license requirements while granting riders the rights and duties of vehicle drivers, subject to local regulation of trail and path use.

Colorado regulates electric bicycles under its state vehicle code. Statewide statutes below set the baseline for every county, city and school district in Colorado. Local governments may adopt stricter rules for trails, sidewalks, beaches and campus property.

Establishes rules for operating bicycles and electrical assisted bicycles on Colorado roads, defines rider rights and duties as equivalent to vehicle drivers except as specially regulated, and allows local governments to further regulate e-bike use on paths and trails.
