Utah e-bike regulations
Utah regulates electric-assisted bicycles under Title 41, Chapter 6a (Traffic Code) of the Utah Code. Utah Code § 41-6a-1115.5
An electric-assisted bicycle is generally subject to the same provisions as a bicycle under Title 41 Chapter 6a, with exceptions. The statute classifies electric bicycles as Class 1 (pedal-assist only, motor ceases at 20 mph), Class 2 (throttle-assisted, motor ceases at 20 mph), and Class 3 (pedal-assist, motor ceases at 28 mph, speedometer required). An individual may operate an electric-assisted bicycle on a highway with certain restrictions, and a person may not operate a Class 3 electric bicycle unless the operator is at least 15 years old. Local authorities may regulate or restrict e-bike use on paths and trails.
