Maine e-bike regulations
Maine defines and regulates electric bicycles under Title 29-A of the Maine Revised Statutes, adopting the three-class e-bike system in 2019 (P.L. 2019, c. 349). E-bikes are generally treated as bicycles, not motor vehicles, and are exempt from registration, titling and insurance requirements when meeting statutory limits.

Defines 'electric bicycle' as a 2- or 3-wheel bicycle with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts, divided into Class 1, 2 and 3 based on motor assistance and speed.
