Idaho e-bike regulations
Idaho defines electric-assisted bicycles as bicycles with fully operable pedals and a motor under 750W that cannot propel the bike faster than 20mph on level ground; such bikes are generally treated like bicycles, not motor vehicles, under Idaho Code Title 49.

Idaho regulates electric bicycles under its state vehicle code. Statewide statutes below set the baseline for every county, city and school district in Idaho. Local governments may adopt stricter rules for trails, sidewalks, beaches and campus property.
What riders should know
- Confirm your bike's class (1, 2 or 3) — most rules key off class.
- Helmet and minimum age rules often differ by class and by locality.
- Trail, path and sidewalk access is frequently set at the county or city level.

Definitions — Electric-assisted bicycle
Idaho Code § 49-106
Defines 'electric-assisted bicycle' as a bicycle with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of less than 750 watts.

Idaho Code § 49-725
Electric-assisted bicycles are subject to the same rights and duties as bicycles under Idaho law except where otherwise specified.
