Florida Counties Tighten Beach and Boardwalk E-Bike Rules
1/28/2027 • Cycle Sages
Several Florida counties have adopted seasonal ordinances restricting throttle-assisted Class 2 electric bicycles on beach access paths, dune crossovers and boardwalks between March and September.
The pattern
The ordinances share a common structure: pedal-assist Class 1 remains permitted, Class 2 throttle operation is prohibited on the boardwalk surface, and Class 3 is barred entirely from beach access infrastructure.
Enforcement
Most counties are issuing warnings for a first offense followed by civil citations. Fines are modest but the ordinances also authorize impoundment for repeat violations.
Practical advice
If your bike has a throttle, plan to walk it across boardwalk sections in peak months, and check the county page for the exact effective dates.
